About Shirley
Shirley was born in Richmond in 1931, the second of the three Albiston girls, between Jalaine and Helen. Like her sisters, she was born at home, not in a hospital, and grew up in the same close Richmond of the 1930s and 40s.
She kept journals throughout her life. Most of that writing stayed with her own children, so much of her story is held by her family rather than gathered here. What follows is a start, with room for her family to add their own.
