In Her Own Words
from 11 autobiographiesJalaine wrote her life down more than once, in eleven pieces over the years, each footnoted in her own careful hand: Text written by Jalaine Albiston Robbins. She begins at the very beginning.
I was born June 24, 1927 at home, one block east of town… One of my very first memories was at the age of four. I remember Dad taking me up to Grandpa and Grandmother Albiston to stay the night. The next day when Dad came to pick me up, he had a surprise for me. I started guessing all the fun things I could think would happen. Disappointed, to say the least, when I found out it was a new baby sister — Shirley. — Jalaine Albiston Robbins
She grew up in Richmond among a close crowd of neighborhood children — the Stoddards, Betty Steed, Aunt Ike and Uncle Roy — jumping in the hay at the Stoddard barn, playing paper dolls on the kitchen floor, jacks, and jump-rope, and softball on the bank corner downtown. All three Albiston girls, she noted, were born at home, not in a hospital.
In November 1951 she married Lowell Wesley “Bud” Robbins; together they raised their family, and she outlived him by three years, dying in 2017 in South Jordan. Her eleven autobiographies, her large collection of letters, and hundreds of her photographs are being gathered here section by section.
